HOW TO MEASURE A RELATIONSHIP

Dr. Stroud has developed a training curriculum to introduce participants to the use of her well received and highly respected text ‘How to Measure a Relationship: A practical approach to dyadic interventions” This training has been provided to a variety of infant mental health professionals. When examining optimal relationships for developmental success, Dr. Stroud introduces participants to the psychological tasks of childhood, which outline the functional activities of early development. Absence or impairment in these basic and required early developmental tasks, would constitute medical necessity, an area in which some provides struggle to operationalize. Specifically participants are directed in the use of “the Causal Rubric” a clinical decision tree that allows providers to design interventions from a place of understanding the child’s developmental needs, relationship needs, and/or environmental stressors that may impact relationship success. How to Measure a Relationships allows providers to target interventions toward the causes of the challenge and not the behavior itself. By addressing the causal nature of the problem and increasing protective factors within the family system, a fundamental shift in the dynamic nature of the caregiving relationship can take place. How to Measure a Relationship, provides a valuable tool to assess dyads, establish medical necessity, outline dyadic goals and describe relationship focused interventions.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE AND REFLECTIVE SUPERVISION TRAINING:

Dr. Stroud is a strong advocate of nurturing the workforce to promote quality services for families and decrease staff burnout in a trauma informed clinical practice setting. In addition to providing full-day trainings on Reflective Practice for diverse professional levels, Dr. Stroud offers individualized consultation to supervisors seeking enhancement of their reflective supervision skills. To achieve this goal, Dr. Stroud has developed a highly acclaimed and successful multiple session approach, inclusive of lecture, practice, consultation calls, and facilitated process discussions, that further bridges key concepts and skill building allowing supervisors to apply in training their newly found abilities. This training series has reached mental health providers, child welfare staff, home-visiting supervisors, and early care and education providers. PROFESSIONAL SKILLS BUILDING

Dr. Stroud travels, extensively, across the United States to present and promote the integration of child development, mental health in young children, and the power of relationship building. A noted example of her work is a workshop presented to the Nevada State Division of Child and Family Services titled ‘Attachment Informed Interventions’ in 2013. Specifically, this innovative training integrated the science of brain development, four decades of research on attachment, and the power of caregiver relationships to support successful client outcomes. Attendees were afforded the opportunity to explore multiple domains of influence on children’s developmental challenges and social-emotional supports, while learning to create interventions that focused on harnessing the power of relationship for success. Additionally, Dr. Stroud traveled to Pennsylvania, Alaska, and Wisconsin to keynote at state level venues to train professionals in the area of Infant Mental Health and to promote successful caregiving relationship.

KATIE A. Compliance

Since 2011 and now into 2014, Dr. Stroud has been providing expert training and consultation in support of Katie A. compliance outcomes for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health’s employees. Katie A refers to a legal action brought against the Los Angeles County Departments of Child and Family Services and Mental Health. This lawsuit has resulted in a new strategy for collaborative systems integration and improved family focused care. In support of optimal learning, Dr. Stroud’s engaging training blends didactic lectures with practical applications of the new standard of service delivery, the Core Practice Model. Furthermore, Dr. Stroud has been asked to weave culturally responsive service applications and reflective practices skill building into her current catalogue of trainings provided. Participants, routinely, depart from Dr. Stroud’s training with great appreciation for the knowledge gained and feel a contagious excitement that only Dr. Stroud can deliver.
